Saturn Retrograde 2026: Karma, Closure & The Surprising Way Life Is Asking Us to Properly Close Out What We Started

Why old relationships, family dynamics and unresolved patterns often resurface during Saturn Retrograde—and why it doesn't mean you're going backwards.
From 26 July until 10 December 2026, Saturn is retrograde.
If you've suddenly found yourself revisiting old emotions, having conversations now that perhaps should have happened sooner (or that you didn't want to have), confronting your ex in new ways, watching familiar relationship patterns play out through your children, or feeling as though life has unexpectedly taken you back to something you thought you'd already healed...
You're not alone.
Astrologically, Saturn Retrograde is often described as a karmic period.
Personally, I think there's a more grounded way to understand it.
Saturn is asking us to complete what is unfinished and become accountable for what we've built or left behind unresolved.

That doesn't mean punishment.
It doesn't mean you're going backwards.
It means life is asking:
"Have you truly become the person you say you are?"
For me, this has shown up in the most unexpected way.
Not through my relationship with my ex-husband.
Through our daughters.
As they've grown older, they're beginning to experience dynamics with their father that I experienced.
They're expressing how they feel - not feeling heard or listened too even though he would say "I am listening."
They're asking questions.
They're setting boundaries.
They're challenging what they're being told.
They're seeing patterns now and asking me about them.
And suddenly...
I'm having to deal with my ex all over again.
But from a different place.
Not as his wife.
Not as someone trying to save the marriage.
Not as someone trying to make him understand me.
Not as someone who dislikes him either or who has any negative personal emotion towards him.
I'm dealing with him as a mother.
Advocating for my children and what they've been telling me.
Standing beside them.
Telling him "listen."
The fascinating part is this:
I'm not the woman he divorced 10 years ago.
He's not dealing with the same version of me anymore.
He's meeting a woman who has spent years rebuilding herself.
Who knows how to communicate differently.
Who has boundaries, emotional self-awareness.
Who is grounded, centered and confident in who she is.
Who isn't afraid of conflict or what someone thinks about her, or what they say to others about her when it protects what matters.
I actually still like him as a person, but I will no longer enable or take on his behaviour where it's relevant to me or my children.
In many ways...
I've been left feeling like I'm meeting an old version of him.
But I'm a completely new version of me.
And that's what Saturn often does in a retrograde like this.
It's bringing back the lesson, the pattern, the conversation that was needing to be had.
Often in another form or way.
Not so you can relive it.
But so you can respond differently, or the situation can be dealth with in accordance with who you are now (or need to be).
That's how you know you've healed.
Not because the person disappears from your life forever.
But because when life places you in front of them again...you no longer drop in yourself and return to the version of yourself you used to be.
You remain who you've become.
Sometimes the greatest evidence of healing isn't that your past never returns.
It's that when it does...you handle it differently, it doesn't trigger you or make you hesitate, run, avoid.
You realise you've become someone entirely different.

What Saturn Retrograde Might Be Bringing Up For You
If you're noticing old themes or past unresolved situations resurfacing between now and December, ask yourself:
What relationship or dynamic is asking to be properly dealt with because it belongs to an old past version of you?
What did I not resolve properly in the past that is now presenting itself to you again?
What did I run from that is coming back around right now?
Where am I being invited to respond differently than I would have a few years ago?
What boundaries now feel non-negotiable?
What version of myself am I refusing to become again?
What have I built since my separation that I'm now being asked to protect?
Saturn Retrograde isn't always about the other person changing.
Often, it's about discovering that you already have. And addressing the situation from this new place of perspective of who you are.
❤️ If this season feels familiar...
If your separation feels like it's resurfacing through exes, emotoinal dynamics, co-parenting, teenagers, financial conversations or old patterns being replayed, it doesn't necessarily mean you're going backwards.
It may simply mean life is giving you one final opportunity to respond and address a situation from the now and the person you've become—not the person you once were when you were trying to survive/escape/run/avoid.
If you're navigating that season and would like support, I'd love to walk alongside you.
My private coaching is designed for men and women who aren't just trying to recover from divorce—they're creating a life that reflects who they've become or who they want to become.
The truly exciting stuff.
Because healing isn't measured by whether your ex or anything external to you changes.
It's measured by how differently you show up when life brings you back into contact with your past.
